webOS no Good for Gaming?

An iPhone developer has stated that that webOS platform is not ready to support high-quality graphics and complex game play elements.

Craig A. Hunter, an iPhone dev, pointed out that the web-oriented environment provided by the current webOS SDK beta poses some problems for game developers.

The current webOS SDK beta does not provide access to OpenGL although the Palm Pre supports it. The current 4 Hz sampling of raw accelerometer data appears to be inadequate. The required minimum for accelerometer-controlled apps is 20 Hz.

Fortunately, Palm seems to be working on this situation. The company is currently hiring a Game Frameworks Engineer who would help improve the platform’s gaming capabilities.

The Palm Pre appears to have great gaming potential as shown by the video featuring the PlayStation emulator. PopCap games is also interested in bringing its games to the Palm Pre and webOS.
