Speed a Priority on the Next webOS Update?
It appears that Palm will attempt to address an important issue in the next webOS update. Reports indicate that webOS 1.3 might provide a significant boost in speed for the Palm Pre.
The source of this information appears to be a quote by Ben and Dion of Palm that was recorded at a London event: "On ease of use, multitasking has been great; UI latency is still an issue even though the hardware is comparable to 3GS. The problem is the path to the GPU didn’t exist, but now with CSS transforms, that will be solved in the immediate future."
This statement implies that the Pre's under-utilized GPU will be put to work minimizing the delays and stutters that occur when a user is scrolling through lists.
Well, I'm definitely excited. Speed is essential to a smartphones performance so this boost will be welcome.
