Palm Pre WebOS SDK Coming

The lack of an open SDK is one of the weaknesses of the webOS platform. The apps in the current Palm Pre catalog are made by developers with a closer association with Palm. Everyone can use native libraries and are limited to web tech like HTML/Javascript. If this continues, then webOS users will get some good, solid apps, and a lot of sub par ones. Fortunately, the open webOS SDK is on the way.
Dave Whalen, the VP of Global Sales for Palm has announced that third-party application developers will have the chance to create applications for webOS and the Palm Pre.
They will have the chance to download the Mojo Palm Pre software development kit "very close to launch."
Mojo will let developers take advantage of Web technologies to create their applications. They will not be limited to standard development tools.
This looks like a good sign. We're looking forward to a robust apps catalog for Palm and webOS in the future.
