More than 50,00 Palm Pre units Sold at First Weekend

The much-awaited Palm Pre release appear to be successful judging from the number of units sold. According to a WSJ article, "sales [of the Pre] in the first two days probably exceeded 50,000."

The article goes on to compare it with iPhone sales that reached
146,000 during its opening weekend. The number of Palm Pre units sold during the first two days is said to have fulfilled the expectations.

Of course, these numbers may have been affected by capacity constraints in manufacturing. Sprint and Palm also did not actively advertise the Pre because of the limited number of units at launch.

Nevertheless, more than 50,000 units sold at the first two days is a good sign. However, the real test will be the number of Palm Pre units sold after the new iPhone 3GS  has been announced.
